The Single Vineyard Krepskogel is the most southern part of Pössnitzberg. It’s a predominantly south-facing site, at around 440m-515m above sea level, forming a basin that traps the sun, ripening the grapes fully. It is also steep, with an average inclination of 55%, further increasing the sun exposure.

In terms of climate, warm winds flow up from Slovenian valleys to meet cool air streams from the Koralpe Mountains in the west. These extreme temperature differences cause the wines to reveal spicy and multi-faceted aroma spectrum.

The resulting wine is classified as “Erste STK Ried” (Premier Cru STK) having proven it demonstrates the strong and natural expression of its origin and has a high ageing potential. The yields are limited to just 45 hl/ha.

The grapes are exclusively harvested by hand. Once at the winery, the juice is subject to spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts. The wine then matures for 12 months in traditional, large, wooden oak casks before release.

CRITIC RATINGS
95 Falstaff

The wine reveals plenty of complex and concentrated aromas, with rose blossoms, candied orange peels, and fully ripe peach and apricots. On the palate, the wine is characterized by chalky minerality from the Krepskogel soils before the intense mandarin and nutmeg flavours take over and leave a long, complex, and spicy aftertaste.
